Madlib, a legend in the making

Exclusive  ! We have met Madlib, man with a thousand faces and a hundred records, on the eve of his european tour. Underground producer based in Los Angeles, his name is constantly quoted among the most influencial artists in the hip hop galaxy. Although he seems to weigh every word, he didn’t avoid any question and, with a smile, graciously went along with the photo op.

” I started fiddling with instruments very young, but I never really learned how to play music, I just wanted to show and prove to myself that you could write and play music without knowing how to read it.”

“At the beginning with MED, Wildchild and Oh No, no-one took us seriously. We’d walk around with huge clocks around our necks, we’d put together a rap crew. We were treated like lepers – till the record came out and people started talking about it. There was a little press, we got played on the radio, and everything was different: we were the cool cats in the hood, but we kept to ourselves. Then we moved to LA with Peanut Butter Wolf…”.
